Code execution via unvalidated XE file parsing
Published Sep 17, 2025 · Updated Sep 17, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in the XE file parser in Ashlar-Vellum Cobalt 12 SP1 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted file. The parser fails to validate user-supplied XE data before reading an allocated data structure, causing a read past its end. Exploitation requires the target to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file, and resulting code runs in the current process.
