Stored XSS via unsanitized placeholder substitution
Published Aug 13, 2025 · Updated Aug 13, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in scoped label descriptions in GitLab CE/EE 18.2 before 18.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute actions. GitLab Flavored Markdown permits later placeholder replacement to introduce attacker-controlled tag markup into a scoped-label tooltip title after normal sanitization. The published reproduction requires scoped labels, the markdown_placeholders feature, and a victim to expose and activate the tooltip; the resulting script can act on the victim's behalf.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
