CVE-2025-7493Network attack vector

Realm administrator escalation via root principal alias

Published Sep 30, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026

Privilege escalation in FreeIPA on affected Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases allows remote authenticated users to gain realm administrator access. The 389-ds LDAP uniqueness plug-in fails to enforce cross-attribute uniqueness between Kerberos principal names and aliases, allowing an enrolled host to add root as an alias to a controlled service principal. Control of an IPA-enrolled host is required; the resulting Kerberos identity impersonation permits realm-wide administration and access to sensitive data.
