Unauthenticated file move via unsanitized source path
Published Jul 15, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Path traversal in HT Plugins HT Contact Form 2.2.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to move server files via crafted file names. The handle_files_upload() path passes an attacker-controlled file name to upload_file(), whose rename() call relocates that source path without sanitization. Unauthenticated form submission is sufficient; moving wp-config.php interrupts the site and exposes WordPress setup for takeover.
