CVE-2025-71409Network attack vector

Misleading clearance injection via unauthenticated radio messages

Published Aug 7, 2026 · Updated Aug 7, 2026

Missing authentication in ATN-B1 CPDLC allows remote attackers to inject misleading air traffic clearances over radio links. The protocol stack accepts cleartext Very High Frequency Data Link messages from ground stations without authenticating their source, so forged messages are processed as legitimate controller communications. Exploitation requires a rogue ground station and specific radio and protocol conditions; successful injection can confuse pilots and degrade operational safety margins without creating an unsafe aircraft condition.
