SYSTEM code execution via unquoted service path
Published Jun 19, 2026 · Updated Jun 19, 2026
Unquoted service path in Avast Antivirus 25.11 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM through the SecureLine service. The SecureLine service registers C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\SecureLine\VpnSvc.exe without quotation marks, so Windows can resolve an attacker-placed executable earlier in the spaced path. A low-privileged Windows account and write access to a candidate path are required; successful execution grants full SYSTEM privileges when the service starts.
