Local kernel warning via unlocked shmem madvise
Published May 8, 2026 · Updated May 8, 2026
Improper locking in Linux Kernel 6.16 through 6.18.15 and 6.19 through 6.19.5 allows local users to trigger a DRM shmem warning. The KUnit shmem tests call drm_gem_shmem_madvise_locked() without holding the GEM object's reservation lock, violating the helper's locking requirement. Low privileges and local execution are required; the affected path is a KUnit test helper and is not exposed to regular DRM drivers.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
