Local service interruption via ksmbd reference leak
Published Feb 14, 2026 · Updated Feb 14, 2026
Reference-count leakage in the Linux Kernel ksmbd SMB server allows local users to interrupt service by exhausting kernel resources. In smb2_open() in fs/smb/server/smb2pdu.c, the ksmbd_vfs_getattr() error path exits without releasing its ksmbd_file reference. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and an active ksmbd server; repeated failures consume kernel resources without exposing or modifying data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
