Administrator code execution via installer DLL preloading
Published Jan 26, 2026 · Updated Jan 26, 2026
DLL preloading in Crucial Storage Executive before 11.08.082025.00 allows local users to execute code with administrator privileges. The elevated installer requests Windows DLLs without fully qualified paths, allowing a DLL beside the installer to replace the intended system library. Exploitation requires a victim to launch the installer from the attacker-controlled directory; the substituted DLL then runs with administrator privileges.
