CVE-2025-71161Network attack vector

Worker hang via recursive FEC correction

Published Jan 23, 2026 · Updated Jan 23, 2026

Denial of service in Linux Kernel dm-verity allows attackers to hang a udev worker through a crafted FEC-enabled image. fec_read_bufs performs as many as 253 scans at each of four recursive verity_hash_for_block levels and shares fio->bufs across those invocations. Reachability requires dm-verity to process corrupted blocks on an FEC-enabled mapping; the demonstrated consequence is a udev worker stuck in D state.
