CVE-2025-71092

Kernel memory corruption via undersized statistics allocation

Published Jan 13, 2026 · Updated Jan 13, 2026

An out-of-bounds write in the Linux Kernel bnxt_re driver allows local users to corrupt kernel memory by reading RDMA statistics. The BNXT_RE_OUT_OF_SEQ_ERR boundary causes allocation of only BNXT_RE_NUM_STD_COUNTERS, while bnxt_re_copy_err_stats() writes three generic counters beyond that allocation. Reachability requires the bnxt_re driver on an affected pre-P5/P7 adapter; world-readable sysfs counters or an unprivileged RDMA netlink request can trigger the refresh.
