Root access via hard-coded shadow credential
Published Mar 10, 2026 · Updated Mar 10, 2026
Use of a hard-coded password in Tenda G1 firmware 16.01.7.8 allows local users to obtain root access through the device login. The read-only /etc_ro/shadow file contains a reusable root password hash; recovering that password supplies a valid credential for root authentication. Exploitation requires local access and password recovery from the firmware image, after which the shared credential grants full administrative control.
