Application crash via unchecked reverse-sample copy
Published Jan 15, 2026 · Updated Jan 15, 2026
Stack overflow in GPAC 2.4.0 allows attackers to crash a GPAC-based application by processing a crafted WAV file during reverse playback. In pcmreframe_flush_packet, the reverse-sample swap copies a WAV-derived sample width into a fixed 100-byte stack buffer without checking its size. Triggering requires reverse playback and a WAV header whose channels and bit depth produce more than 100 bytes per sample; only a crash was demonstrated.
