Application crash via undersized AVI SuperIndex allocation
Published Jan 15, 2026 · Updated Jan 15, 2026
Heap-based buffer overflow in GPAC 2.4.0 allows remote attackers to crash applications that parse a crafted AVI file. The AVI demuxer's avi_parse_input_file() allocates SuperIndex storage from the untrusted wLongsPerEntry value but writes 16-byte entries regardless, causing an out-of-bounds heap write. Exploitation requires a user or consuming application to parse the file; the demonstrated consequence is a reliable process crash, not code execution.
