Code execution or scanner crash via malformed PE
Published Jun 12, 2026 · Updated Jun 12, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Gen Digital antivirus products before VPS 25021310 allows attackers to execute code or crash the scanner via a malformed PE file. The shared scanning engine reads beyond a heap buffer while parsing malformed Windows PE input; no more specific parser locus has been published. Exploitation requires user interaction that causes an affected local antivirus engine to scan the file, resulting in process compromise or interruption.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
