Authenticated code execution via FreeMarker template injection
Published Feb 5, 2026 · Updated Feb 5, 2026
Server-side template injection in ChestnutCMS 1.5.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute code via crafted templates. The administrator backend saves arbitrary FreeMarker expressions in template files, and CoreController renders them through /cms/preview/* without a sandbox. Code execution requires template-edit permission and a deployment whose FreeMarker configuration and JVM policies permit method execution.
