Open redirect via untrimmed backslash path
Published Feb 19, 2026 · Updated Feb 19, 2026
Open redirect in go-chi/chi 5.2.2 through 5.2.3 allows remote attackers to send victim users to attacker-controlled sites. RedirectSlashes in middleware/strip.go trims forward slashes but preserves backslashes, producing a /\host Location value that Chrome and Firefox normalize to //host. Exploitation requires an application to enable the middleware and a victim to open the crafted legitimate-domain URL in a susceptible browser; Safari does not perform the redirect.
