Local crash via invalid DWARF offset size
Published Mar 6, 2026 · Updated Mar 6, 2026
Denial of service in GNU Binutils objdump 2.44 allows local users to crash the process by opening malformed DWARF data. DWARF compilation-unit parsing propagates an invalid offset_size value into byte_get_little_endian, which calls abort and raises SIGABRT. Exploitation requires an operator or another local workflow to make objdump process the crafted binary; the reported consequence is limited to termination of that objdump process.
