Root code execution via writable package task
Published Jan 29, 2026 · Updated Jan 29, 2026
Privilege escalation in Shirt Pocket SuperDuper! 3.11 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code as root on macOS. The default task template permits a low-privileged user to redirect the privileged package-install step to an attacker-controlled installer whose scripts execute as root with Full Disk Access. Local access is required; successful use bypasses macOS privacy controls and grants root-level access to protected data and system resources.
