CVE-2025-69419Network attack vector

Memory corruption via negative UTF-8 output length

Published Jan 27, 2026 · Updated Jan 27, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in OpenSSL 1.1.1 and 3.0 through 3.6 allows attackers to corrupt memory via a crafted PKCS#12 file. The OPENSSL_uni2utf8() second pass gives UTF8_putc() the remaining UTF-16 source bytes as output capacity; a three-byte character can return -1, making the length negative before a trailing NUL is stored. An application must call PKCS12_get_friendlyname() on attacker-controlled input; the primitive is one zero-byte write before a heap buffer and can crash the process.
