Arbitrary file overwrite via Metalink path traversal

Path traversal in GNU Wget2 2.2.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to overwrite victim-writable files via a crafted Metalink document. Metalink v3/v4 processing trusts each file-name element without sanitizing traversal sequences or absolute paths before opening the destination. Victim interaction is required to process the document; exploitation can create, truncate, or overwrite files with the victim user's permissions.
