System crash via unchecked meter packet index
Published Jan 13, 2026 · Updated Jan 13, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux Kernel ALSA USB mixer driver allows local users to crash the system through malformed meter packets. get_meter_levels_from_urb() subtracts one from a device-supplied channel number and uses the unchecked result to index meter_level, comp_level, and master_level arrays. The published assessment requires low-privileged local access and the affected TASCAM US-16x08 USB mixer path; reported impact is limited to availability.
