CVE-2025-68769

Kernel panic via mishandled F2FS recovery error

Published Jan 13, 2026 · Updated Jan 13, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel F2FS driver allows local users to trigger a kernel panic while mounting an affected image. The F2FS mount path fails to propagate a negative error from f2fs_recover_fsync_data() for read-only norecovery or disable_roll_forward mounts, so vfs_get_tree() receives a positive return value without fc->root and hits a kernel BUG. Exploitation requires permission to mount a prepared F2FS image with one of those options and interrupts the host through a kernel panic.
