Service interruption via uninitialized ntfs3 record buffer
Published Dec 24, 2025 · Updated Dec 24, 2025
Uninitialized memory use in Linux kernel ntfs3 from 5.15 allows local users to interrupt service by loading an affected metadata record. In mi_format_new, ntfs_get_bh accepts a non-uptodate sb_getblk buffer and marks it uptodate without overwriting its uninitialized contents before adding them to the record. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and NTFS3 filesystem activity; loading the resulting record triggers KMSAN, while the precise production failure mode is unpublished.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
