CVE-2025-68667Network attack vector

Room access and disruption via forged membership events

Published Dec 23, 2025 · Updated Dec 23, 2025

Confused-deputy behavior in Continuwuity before 0.5.0 allows remote attackers to forge server-signed Matrix membership events. The federation invite handler signs supplied membership events when state_key names a local user, without verifying that the request origin may act for that user. No account or user interaction is required; forged leave, invite, or ban events can remove users, expose private-room history, or weaken room protections.
