Authenticated subscription takeover via missing ownership checks

Published Jan 28, 2026 · Updated Jan 28, 2026

Missing authorization in Discourse before 3.5.4 allows remote authenticated users to take over other users' subscriptions. Some subscription endpoints modify a referenced subscription without verifying that the authenticated user owns it; the vendor has not disclosed endpoint names or patch details. Any low-privileged account can cross the ownership boundary, exposing subscription data and permitting unauthorized changes, while availability is unaffected.
