Stored XSS via Vega mitigation bypass
Published Dec 18, 2025 · Updated Dec 18, 2025
Stored XSS in Elastic Kibana affected through 7.17.29, 8.19.8, 9.1.8, or 9.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts via Vega. A Vega method accepts attacker-controlled chart content in a form that bypasses Kibana's previous XSS mitigation, then serves the embedded script to browsers. An authenticated account able to create or edit Vega content is required; execution occurs in browsers that render the malicious content.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <=7.17.29
