Authenticated node crash via oversized profile updates
Published Dec 18, 2025 · Updated Dec 18, 2025
Resource exhaustion in Elastic Elasticsearch allows remote authenticated users to crash nodes by submitting oversized user profile data. ProfileService.updateProfileData merged attacker-controlled labels and application data into stored profiles without enforcing a size limit. Low-privileged access is sufficient, and repeated oversized updates can exhaust heap memory and cause a persistent out-of-memory crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <=7.17.29
- Affected versionversion=8.0.0 <=8.19.8
- Affected versionversion=9.0.0 <=9.1.8
- Affected versionversion=9.2.0 <=9.2.2
