System crash via oversized BPF stack trace
Published Dec 24, 2025 · Updated Dec 24, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the system through an oversized BPF perf stack trace. The __bpf_get_stackid() function copies a perf stack trace into a stack-map bucket without first limiting the copy to the bucket data-array capacity. Local low-privileged access is required; the demonstrated effect is kernel memory corruption affecting availability, with no reported data disclosure.
