CVE-2025-68276Public exploit

Local daemon crash via wide-area record browser

Published Jan 12, 2026 · Updated Jan 12, 2026

Reachable assertion in Avahi 0.9-rc2 and earlier allows local users to crash avahi-daemon through a D-Bus record-browser request. With wide-area discovery disabled, D-Bus accepts the wide-area lookup flag and reaches avahi_wide_area_scan_cache, where assertion e aborts the daemon. Any unprivileged local user able to call the system-bus API can trigger the service interruption; no data exposure or modification is reported.
