File write denial via missing access restoration
Published Dec 16, 2025 · Updated Dec 16, 2025
Denial of file writes in the Linux kernel binfmt_misc component allows attackers to block later writes after a registration error. bm_register_write() opens an executable through open_exec(), but its error path calls filp_close() without restoring write access. Reachability requires a binfmt_misc registration attempt that opens the executable and then follows that error path.
