Local denial of service via spurious ring-buffer warning
Published Dec 16, 2025 · Updated Dec 16, 2025
Denial of service in the Linux kernel trace ring buffer allows local users to trigger a kernel warning through a tracing ioctl. The ring_buffer_map_get_reader() function treats a NULL result from rb_get_reader_page() as exceptional when the reader has caught the writer and unread data remains on the reader page. Local access to the tracing ioctl is required, and the demonstrated behavior is a kernel warning rather than data access or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
