Display corruption via broken AFBC modifier support
Published Dec 16, 2025 · Updated Dec 16, 2025
AFBC handling flaw in the Linux MediaTek DRM driver on MT8188 causes garbled rendering and recurring vblank timeouts during display use. The driver advertises the 32x8, split, sparse AFBC modifier even though its MT8188 display path cannot correctly consume the resulting buffers selected by Mesa. Exposure requires a MediaTek Genio 700 EVK-class MT8188 system and Mesa 25.0 or later using AFBC; the documented consequence is corrupted output and repeated timeout warnings.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
