CVE-2025-68144Network attack vector

Local file overwrite via Git option injection

Published Dec 17, 2025 · Updated Dec 17, 2025

Argument injection in mcp-server-git before 2025.12.18 allows remote attackers to overwrite local files through crafted Git references. The git_diff and git_checkout functions pass attacker-controlled reference strings to the Git CLI, where leading hyphens are parsed as options such as an output path. Exploitation requires an MCP host to supply attacker-influenced tool input after passive user interaction, and the overwrite uses the server process permissions.
