Arbitrary repository creation via unrestricted path input
Published Dec 17, 2025 · Updated Dec 17, 2025
Path traversal in mcp-server-git before 2025.9.25 allows remote attackers to create Git repositories via crafted filesystem paths. The git_init tool passed its unvalidated path argument to repository initialization without restricting the target to the configured repository. Exploitation requires a client or model to invoke the exposed tool; successful use creates a repository anywhere writable by the server process and exposes that location to later Git operations.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
