Heap over-read via unterminated certificate-cache filename
Published Dec 17, 2025 · Updated Dec 17, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in FreeRDP before 3.20.0 allows remote attackers to crash Windows clients or read adjacent heap memory. freerdp_certificate_data_hash_ formats an attacker-controlled hostname into a certificate-cache filename with _snprintf, which can leave the buffer unterminated after truncation. A malicious RDP server or crafted .rdp file can supply the hostname; default connections usually terminate before useful data is exposed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
