CVE-2025-67859

Local profile control via Polkit PID race

Published Jan 14, 2026 · Updated Jan 14, 2026

Improper authentication in the TLP 1.9 profiles daemon allows local users to change power profiles and log settings via D-Bus requests. The _check_polkit_auth() function sends only the caller PID as a Polkit unix-process subject, allowing PID reuse before authorization to substitute a higher-privileged process. Any local account able to connect to the system D-Bus can win the race and exercise controls intended for an authenticated desktop session or root.
