Unauthorized email sending via unprotected AJAX action
Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Missing authorization in Highlight and Share 5.2.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to send email through a WordPress site. The unauthenticated has_email_form_submission AJAX handler accepts a public post nonce and form data without checking user authorization. Exploitation requires a valid nonce exposed by the public sharing workflow and causes the site to relay attacker-chosen messages.
