Heap-based buffer overflow in HDF5 1.14.6 allows local users to crash applications that process a crafted HDF5 file. H5O__chunk_deserialize fails to decode old and new mtime messages, passes a zero-sized buffer to H5O__mtime_new_encode, and triggers a four-byte heap write. The public proof of concept requires local execution with a crafted file; published scoring limits the confirmed impact to an application crash.
