Daemon crash via unchecked satellite count
Published Jan 2, 2026 · Updated Jan 2, 2026
Heap-based out-of-bounds write in gpsd before 3.27.1 allows attackers to corrupt memory via a crafted NMEA2000 packet. The hnd_129540 handler trusts the packet's satellite-count byte and uses it to index the fixed-size skyview array without enforcing its 184-entry limit. Access to the NMEA2000 CAN bus or a compromised device on that network is required; exploitation can crash the daemon and corrupt adjacent heap data.
