Local code execution via PATH-resolved wfapi.dll
Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025
DLL hijacking in TrueConf Client 8.5.2 allows local users to execute arbitrary code by planting a crafted wfapi.dll on Windows. TrueConf.exe requests wfapi.dll without an absolute path, so Windows searches the user PATH and loads an attacker-controlled copy from a writable directory. A low-privileged local user must place the DLL in a PATH directory such as WindowsApps and wait for the client to start; execution remains in the current user's context.
