LocalSystem code execution via unquoted service path
Published Dec 4, 2025 · Updated Dec 5, 2025
Unquoted service path in VeePNService in VeePN 1.6.1 allows local users to execute code as LocalSystem during service start. The service registers C:\Program Files (x86)\VeePN\service\VeePNService.exe without quotation marks, so Windows can resolve and launch an attacker-planted executable from an earlier path segment. Exploitation requires local file-placement access and a service restart or reboot; successful code runs with LocalSystem privileges.
