Authenticated local-file access via unnormalized path check
Published Mar 13, 2026 · Updated Mar 13, 2026
Path traversal in Apache Livy 0.3.0 through 0.8.0 allows remote authenticated users to access unauthorized local files via job requests. Session.resolveURI checks an unnormalized request path against livy.file.local-dir-whitelist with a prefix comparison, so ../ segments pass before resolving outside an allowed directory. Exploitation requires a non-default whitelist value and low-privileged access to the network-facing Livy server; resulting file access can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
