CVE-2025-65713Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Code execution via unchecked absolute downloader paths

Published Dec 23, 2025 · Updated Dec 23, 2025

Path traversal in Home Assistant Core before 2025.8.0 allows remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary files through its Downloader service. The download_file service accepts an absolute subdir because raise_if_invalid_path rejects tildes and dot-dot segments but not leading slashes, so os.path.join discards the configured download directory. Exploitation requires the Downloader integration, an administrator persuaded to invoke the service, knowledge of target paths, and a restart to turn a file overwrite into code execution.
