DTLS endpoint crash via unchecked array index
Published Nov 24, 2025 · Updated Nov 24, 2025
An array index error in libcoap 4.3.5 allows remote attackers to crash a DTLS endpoint through a crafted certificate handshake. The tls_verify_call_back() function passes the unchecked -1 result of SSL_get_ex_data_X509_STORE_CTX_idx() to X509_STORE_CTX_get_ex_data(), causing a null-pointer read. The OpenSSL-backed certificate-verification path must process the handshake; the resulting segmentation fault interrupts the affected client or server process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
