Remote service crash via unchecked SSL context
Published Nov 24, 2025 · Updated Nov 24, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in OISM libcoap 4.3.5 allows remote attackers to crash a DTLS-enabled service via a crafted handshake. In coap_dtls_generate_cookie() in src/coap_openssl.c, an unchecked NULL result from SSL_get_SSL_CTX() is passed to SSL_CTX_get_app_data(), which dereferences the invalid context. The affected path requires a server built with DTLS and the OpenSSL backend, and triggering it terminates the serving process without exposing or modifying data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
