Cleartext transmission in Aqara Hub firmware allows remote attackers to read uploaded device secrets by intercepting network traffic. The undisclosed hub_backup process automatically sends daily configuration backups, including passwords, wireless identifiers, and persistent device keys, to regional AWS storage without an opt-out. Exploitation requires access to the transmission path; successful interception exposes hub, network, pairing, and automation data without authentication or device-owner action.
