Privilege escalation via embedded OLE graphics
Published Jan 16, 2026 · Updated Jan 16, 2026
Malicious content delivery in AVEVA Process Optimization 2024.1 and earlier allows local users to assume a victim's identity via crafted graphics. The graphics editor permits Designer users to embed OLE objects that activate when a victim interacts with the resulting graphical elements. Exploitation requires an authenticated Process Optimization Designer account and subsequent victim interaction, exposing the victim's confidentiality and integrity without interrupting service.
