Firmware crash via unchecked JPEG marker lengths
Published Nov 21, 2025 · Updated Nov 21, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in ESP-IDF 5.3.4, 5.4.3, and 5.5.1 allows remote attackers to crash ESP32-P4 firmware via a crafted JPEG. In components/esp_driver_jpeg/jpeg_parse_marker.c, marker parsers consume attacker-controlled lengths without validating the remaining buffer or 64-entry quantization-table bounds. No authentication or user interaction is required, but the path exists only when ESP32-P4 firmware invokes the hardware JPEG decoder; documented consequences are a crash or other undefined behavior.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
