Authentication bypass via inconsistent pathname decoding
Published Nov 19, 2025 · Updated Nov 20, 2025
Authentication bypass in Astro before 5.15.8 allows remote attackers to access protected routes through URL-encoded request paths. Astro routes a decodeURI-normalized pathname while middleware receives the raw context.url.pathname, so encoded variants evade literal path checks. Exploitation requires a deployed application that uses middleware pathname equality for access control and exposes a protected route; the demonstrated consequence is unauthorized route access.
